Inter Milan are reportedly set to beat competition from Liverpool in the race to sign Dalbert Henrique from OGC Nice this summer.

According to a report by Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte, Inter Milan are set to announce the signing of Dalbert Henrique having agreed his transfer fee with OGC Nice. Liverpool were also reportedly interested in signing the Brazilian left-back this summer.

Dalbert joined Nice from Portuguese outfit Vitoria de Guimaraes last summer, and was one of the mainstays in a side that was the surprise package in Ligue 1 last season. The French Riviera club finished third in the French top flight to be on the cusp of a historic Champions League qualification.

Defensive solidity was one of Nice’s keys to success, with Dalbert being one of the bedrocks of their back-line last season. The player made 33 Ligue 1 appearances in the campaign, keeping things tight at the back while also contributing to his team’s cause with four assists.

The 23-year-old, though, looks set to depart from Allianz Riviera after just one season, with Inter Milan destined to secure his services in the coming days. The Nerazzurri’s ambitious Chinese owners are keen to see the club scale the heights of Italian football once again and have appointed Luciano Spalletti to undertake the project.

And after making a number of signings in the transfer window thus far, while also successfully retaining the services of sought-after players like Ivan Perisic, they have now shifted their focus towards landing a left-back.

Spalletti has Davide Santon, Cristian Ansaldi and Yuto Nagatomo as his current options for the left side of defence. But none of the aforementioned defenders have managed to be consistent performers for Inter in the last few seasons.

Thus, the Nerazzurri have been hot in pursuit of Dalbert for several weeks now. The Serie A side have now beaten stiff competition for the player after agreeing the transfer fee for him with Nice. Inter had already reached an agreement for personal terms with the 23-year-old who publicly urged Nice to negotiate with the Italians.

Liverpool had also been heavily linked with the Brazilian left-back. In fact, the Reds had tabled a more lucrative deal than the Inter offered to Dalbert with Jurgen Klopp eager to bolster his defensive options. But the player turned it down for the opportunity to play at San Siro.

The Merseyside club have since completed the signing of Andrew Robertson to add to Klopp’s options for next season, alongside Alberto Moreno and James Milner. Dalbert, though, looks set to move to Inter in the coming days, with the transfer subject to a medical examination.
