Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly wants Real Madrid to end their summer pursuit of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.

According to a report in Spanish publication Don Balon, Manchester United are set to be handed a major boost in their bid to retain the services of David De Gea, as Cristiano Ronaldo has vetoed the signing of the Spaniard in favour of keeping Keylor Navas at Real Madrid.

De Gea has been one of the most instrumental players in the Manchester United first-team setup for the last six seasons, having showcased remarkable shot stopping abilities for his side. So much so that he is currently rated as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

His stellar performances have also put a target on the back of De Gea, with Real Madrid being keen on signing him this summer. In fact, Los Blancos made an attempt to sign him two summers ago before failed paperwork scuppered the deal.

The newly-crowned Spanish champions are reportedly back in the market for De Gea, as they are likely to offload Keylor Navas in the summer. The Costa Rican has endured a topsy turvy campaign in 2016/17 thus far, conceding 49 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions while keeping just 7 clean sheets.

However, the shot stopper has showed signs of a turnaround in form in the last few weeks, as he made some crucial saves for Real Madrid to help them recapture the La Liga title. Despite that though, recent reports strongly suggest that Navas could be on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.

But if Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo had his way, Navas could yet have a lifeline to his career in the Spanish capital. The former Manchester United attacker does not want Los Blancos to make a move for De Gea in the summer as he does not want to see a successful squad being broken up.

In fact, Ronaldo considers Navas to be one of the key figures in Zinedine Zidane’s squad and an indispensable member of the first-team setup. The Portuguese is, thus, set to veto the signing of De Gea, handing Manchester United a huge boost in their bid to keep him at Old Trafford.

Recent reports had also suggested that Manchester United were confident of keeping hold of De Gea, but the latest report will certainly provide a spring in their step. It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid indeed heed the advice of Ronaldo to keep Navas at the Bernabeu beyond the summer.
