Alexis Sanchez is reportedly ready to leave Arsenal and the Chilean is eager to join up with his former manager Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Spanish publication Don Balon are claiming that Alexis Sanchez could be set to leave Arsenal in the summer. The Gunners have been locked in contract talks with the Chilean without much break-through and reports have emerged that Manchester City could be the new destination for Alexis.

Alexis Sanchez has been a livewire for Arsenal ever since joining the club from Barcelona. This season, though, the Chilean has taken it up a notch, taking to the role of a central striker with aplomb. And while he has returned to his original position, Alexis has continued to impress the on-lookers with his determination.

Sanchez has chalked up 21 goals and 11 assists in the league alone – becoming the first player in the last three seasons to record 20+ goals and 11+assists in a single Premier League campaign and the first after Luis Suarez, who achieved the feat in the 2013-14 season.

That the player is only the second Gunner to achieve the stupendous statistic – first being Thierry Henry who did it twice – is fitting to highlight the importance and stature of the attacker within the Arsenal setup.

However, with Arsenal in with a real chance of failing to acquire Champions League football next term, Alexis Sanchez’s future, which was already up in the air, is sure to be a bone for contention. The Chilean sounded out earlier in the season that he wants to challenge for the title – something Arsenal have failed to do.

Manchester City are best primed to land Alexis Sanchez after it was revealed that Pep Guardiola has prioritized the Chilean in order to build a squad capable of challenging for top honours next campaign.

The duo were together at Barcelona and the fact that Alexis has already worked under Pep’s regime could be one of the factors the Citizens are pursuing the player with much passion.

In fact, Alexis Sanchez could be the perfect fit to the style of play Pep Guardiola employs as the brand of football is not too far from what Arsene Wenger has deployed at Arsenal over the years.

Guardiola does face competition in the form of Manchester United and Chelsea among other clubs. But, as per Don Balon, Alexis Sanchez has been sounded out of the possibility of a switch to Etihad and the Chilean is reportedly eager to join the project.

The update will come as a huge boost to Manchester City’s hopes of landing Alexis Sanchez while the timing of the news can be questioned – given the fact that the two clubs are still fighting it out in the race for the top four.

Whether the move ends up happening or not, we can be sure that the Citizens will launch an attempt in the summer and Guardiola’s men are better placed than the other suitors at the present moment, so the report suggests.
