Transfer News: Diego Costa clears air surrounding Chelsea future amid Chinese links

Diego Costa has cleared the air surrounding his future with Chelsea amid reports linking him with a move to the Chinese Super League.

Diego Costa has addressed speculation linking him with a departure from Chelsea in the summer transfer window, insisting that he has not yet given the green light to a move to China. Chinese Super League club, Tianjin Quanjian have been heavily linked with a big money move for the Spain striker.

As reported by the Telegraph, Costa said that he will decide his own future – that does not necessarily mean that he’s moving to China. “I am the owner of my future and it does not mean that I am going to China,” Costa said while speaking to speaking to South American TV channel DIRECTVSports.

Costa has been a key player for Chelsea in the three seasons that he has been with them. But his career with the Blues has had its fair share of lows to go along with the highs as well. While he has been one of the most prolific players in the Premier League, he hasn’t been consistent with his form over the last three years.

That has pretty much been the case this season as well, as Costa started the season brightly, romping to the top of the goalscoring charts and playing a pivotal role in Chelsea’s charge for the Premier League title, before a dismal second half of the campaign saw him being leapfrogged by Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku.

His tally of 20 goals and 7 assists in 33 Premier League appearances this season still makes for impressive reading, though, meaning he has made a direct contribution to a goal every 108 minutes.

However, despite being instrumental in the West Londoners’ bid for the league title, everything is not hunky dory between Costa and Chelsea. Certain reports have suggested that Costa is “sick of” living in London and is eager to move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Rumours are also rife that Costa has also signed a pre-contract agreement with Chinese Super League club, Tianjin Quanjian who want to make him the best paid player in the world by offering him a pay package worth €90 million over three years.

However, Costa’s latest comments suggest that everything is not set in stone, even though the reported offer on his table from China is lucrative. Meanwhile, the report also goes on to add that Costa would not turn down a possible move to French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG currently have Edinson Cavani leading the attack and while the Uruguayan striker is enjoying his most fruitful season at the Parc des Princes, some reports have claimed that he could be moved on by Les Parisiens in the summer.

Should that happen, Costa would be a like-for-like replacement for Cavani and would offer the best years of his career to PSG. The Spain international still has two years left on his current deal with Chelsea, and it is believed the the Blues would like to keep hold of the player.

Indeed, an in-form Costa is as crucial to Chelsea’s fortunes as any other player in Antonio Conte’s squad. It now remains to be seen if a move away from Stamford Bridge materialises or if the 28-year-old ends up staying with the West London club.
