Transfer News: Chelsea granted permission to take AFC Wimbledon prodigy Toyosi Olusanya on trial

Chelsea have reportedly been granted permission to take AFC Wimbledon winger Toyosi Olusanya, who is also being chased by Manchester City, on trial.

Daily Mirror are claiming that Chelsea have finally been granted permission to take highly-rated AFC Wimbledon winger Toyosi Olusanya on trial. The player was being followed heavily by Chelsea and Manchester City. And it seems the Blues have stolen a march on the Citizens.

Olusanya is the next one to garner attention around his talents after reports had emerged earlier of Arsenal and West Ham United both looking to sign another one of the Wimbledon’s rising stars – Toby Sibbick.

Toyosi Olusanya – 19 – is a London-born academy product of AFC Wimbledon. The player is eligible to play for both England and Nigeria and has caught the attention with his lightning pace. The Mirror report entails him as a winger but he is mostly classified as a forward among his peers.

Olusanya caught Chelsea’s attention in the FA Youth Cup – in a game where he featured against Chelsea in February 2016. And the Blues have been asking Wimbledon to allow them to take a closer look at the player – asking for a potential loan deal for the player.

The 19-year-old had already managed to break into the first-team setup at AFC Wimbledon last season and scored on his League Two debut for the club. Now, with the end of the season approaching and the transfer window set to re-open in the summer, Wimbledon have granted Chelsea the permission to take the player on a trial.

The trial would enable Conte’s men to take a closer look at the player, who himself has a great chance to earn a permanent stay at Stamford Bridge – if he manages to impress the coaches enough within the duration of the trial.

The news comes as a huge blow to Manchester City’s chances of securing the services of the 19-year-old. The player has been watched several times by both Chelsea and Manchester City, who were both reported to be keen on Olusanya.

However, Chelsea could be immediate favourites – irrespective of them gaining the lead with a trial request approved – as the player hails from London and will more likely be interested in staying within the city and further his development.

City, though, are not one to admit defeat in the transfer market without a proper fight and we could well hear of a similar trial request or an outright transfer offer for the player in the coming weeks.
