Chelsea have reportedly beaten off fierce competition on the way to reaching an agreement around £500,000 for the transfer of Rangers wonderkid Billy Gilmour.
As per a report from Goal, Chelsea have finally been able to reach an agreement with Rangers for Billy Gilmour. The Rangers wonderkid has been on the radar of clubs like Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona. But, the Blues have managed to beat them to the youngster.
Chelsea have been tracking the 15-year-old star since long. The Blues were reportedly close to an agreement with Rangers for Gilmour but a move failed to materialize then. But, now they have been able to secure the player’s future with the current Premier League leaders.
As per the report, Chelsea have agreed to pay Rangers a £500,000 compensation fee and Gilmour will join the club in the summer, after the player was impressed with the facilities available at the Cobham Training Centre following a visit.
Billy Gilmour is a prodigious young talent. The player has represented his nation and club Rangers’ Under-17 sides at 15 and is touted as possibly one of the future superstars for Scotland.

That he has already started training with the first-team at Rangers at the nascent age of 15 is validation enough of the talent that Gilmour seems to possess.
The player has even made it as a regular for Rangers’ Under-20 side and is expected to make his senior cut soon, having already started training with the first-team under manager Pedro Caixinha.
The player would have been available for an even lower compensation fee at the end of the season but Chelsea, fully aware of the presence of interest from other clubs who could come swooping in during the summer, have moved early and secured the services of the player.
Taking inference from the Goal report, it seems Manchester City were the most prominently linked other party and that Chelsea have beaten Manchester City and the other suitors to Gilmour.
Gilmour is currently too young to make the switch and will be eligible to do so only after his 16th birthday, which falls on June 11. Chelsea seems to have procured another gem for their academy.
However, only time will tell if Gilmour becomes another part of the infamous business model at Chelsea or he ends up being that one talent that breaks through and becomes a superstar for Chelsea in the future.
