Chelsea have initiated contact with Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera over a possible move in the summer, as per reports.
Daily Mail have reported that Chelsea have revived their interest in Fernando Muslera and have made fresh contact with the Galatasaray goalkeeper over a summer move, as they search for a replacement for Asmir Begovic.
Muslera has been a rock in goal for Galatasaray ever since moving to Turkey from Lazio in 2011. The 30-year-old has notched up almost 250 appearances for the Turkish giants in six years at the Turk Telekom Arena, and he has been an assured presence between the sticks.
This season, as has been the case in recent years, Muslera has been an ever present in Igor Tudor’s side, playing 24 Turkish Super Lig and keeping six clean sheets. He has also been a regular for Uruguay, having played 85 times for his national side.
However, it looks like Muslera could be all set to move away from Galatasaray with Chelsea keen on signing him in the summer, as they seek to find a replacement for backup goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
Begovic has made it clear that he wants to play more first team football while he is at the peak of his powers, something he won’t be able to achieve at Stamford Bridge. And the Bosnian had looked all set to move to Bournemouth in January, before the move was scuppered due to Chelsea’s inability to find a replacement.
Muslera was one of the candidates to replace Begovic as Thibaut Courtois’ backup before a deal failed to materialise. But with Begovic certain to move away from the West London club in the summer, Chelsea are ready to step up interest in the Galatasaray number one.
Muslera was first recommended by former Chelsea goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon, and the report states that the Premier League leaders have made fresh contact with the goalkeeper’s camp as they eye a possible move in the summer.
Muslera has just 15 months left to run on his current deal with Galatasaray and the Turkish club have put a new deal on the table. However, if the Uruguayan becomes adamant on a move to Chelsea, Galatasaray will demand £15 million for his services.
Chelsea are believed to be willing to let Begovic leave in the summer. They are, thus, eager to secure the services of Muslera, and the price tag is unlikely to be a concern for the West London club.
