Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in Domenico Berardi, and are set to make a summer move for the Sassuolo forward, as per reports.
Italian publication Calciomercato have reported that Tottenham Hotspur have rekindled their interest in Sassuolo forward Domenico Berardi. The North London club now look set to rival the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Juventus for the highly rated Italian in the summer.
Berardi is slowly but surely starting to become a hot property in Europe, having emerged as one of the most promising young talents in Italy in recent years. Having progressed through the ranks at the Mapei Stadium, the Italy under-21 international has become a fan favourite amongst the Neroverdi fans.
Still only 22, Berardi has already notched up some impressive numbers for Sassuolo, scoring 56 goals and providing 36 assists in 148 appearances in all competitions. Of these 7 goals and 4 assists have come in 15 games, in what has been a stop-start 2016/17 season for the youngster.
All this has seen Berardi being rated as the future of Italian football and surely enough, his undoubted potential hasn’t gone unnoticed. Clubs from across Europe have been circling around the youngster, with Juventus, Chelsea and Liverpool all having him monitored in recent months.
Arsenal then entered the picture last week, as they had representatives in attendance at the Mapei Stadium to watch four promising Italian youngsters as Sassuolo hosted AC Milan, with Berardi being one of the players who were scouted.
The report from Calciomercato states that Arsenal weren’t the only club who were eyeing Berardi in that game, with North London rivals Tottenham also sending scouts to watch Berardi. The Lilywhites have been long-term admirers of Berardi’s talents and even made a move to sign him last summer, which, for untold reasons, failed to transpire.
But, in spite of failing in their pursuit of the 22-year-old last time out, Tottenham look determined to make another move for Berardi, with Mauricio Pochettino keen to beef his squad up to compete on four fronts. And a top quality attacker is believed to be top priority.
Berardi not only brings the pacy outlet that is missing from Tottenham’s attack currently, but with his dangerous eye for goal, he can become the perfect complement for Harry Kane and Dele Alli, with Christian Eriksen feeding them.
His versatility also makes him an attractive prospect for Pochettino, who admires such a quality in his players, and the promising player certainly looks to be an upgrade on the likes of Vincent Janssen and Erik Lamela.
However, Tottenham are sure to have a challenge on their hands in order to secure the services of Berardi in the summer, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Juventus all keen on the Sassuolo man. It goes without saying, though, that Sassuolo will face a battle to keep hold of their prized asset in the summer.
