Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly all set to strike a stunning swap deal in the summer that will involve Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani.
According to an exclusive from Bernabeu Digital, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain will be involved in a swap deal. The two club presidents have met to discuss the details of a move that will see Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani switch sides in the summer.
Karim Benzema has well and truly been a stalwart for Real Madrid in nearly eight years he has been in the Spanish capital. Although he is an out and out striker, he has often played a key role in the buildup to goals and hasn’t shied away from supporting players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
The stats definitely make for impressive reading, with Benzema scoring 175 goals while providing 100 assists, a stupendous return for a striker. However, he hasn’t nearly been at his best for Real Madrid this season, having managed to bag just 13 goals and 6 assists in 29 matches in all competitions.
Edinson Cavani, on the other hand, had to remain content with playing a supporting role to the more heralded Zlatan Ibrahimovic for large parts of his career with PSG. However, Ibrahimovic’s move to Manchester United this past summer saw Cavani being thrust into being the first choice under Unai Emery.
And Cavani hasn’t looked back since then. The Uruguay international has been in devastating form in front of goal this season, netting 32 goals in as many appearances in all competitions. 25 of these have come in Ligue 1 with a goal being scored every 76 minutes – the best in the French top flight.
Recent reports have linked Arsenal and Chelsea with making a move for Benzema before news of a new contract on offer from Real Madrid broke through earlier this month. However, Los Blancos have been scouting strikers recently as per reports and it looks like a deal may have been clinched.
The report states that the presidents of Real Madrid and PSG, Florentino Perez and Nasser Al-Khelaifi share an excellent relationship. The two seem to have now agreed on a move that will see Benzema and Cavani exchange homes in the summer.
Benzema’s relationship with the Real Madrid supporters has deteriorated this year, and the Frenchman is now seriously considering a return to his country. The swap deal will offer him a chance to do that, and enable Perez to sign a player he admires a lot. It now remains to be seen if the stunning move does take place in the summer.
