Inter Milan have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Sampdoria striker Luis Muriel, who has been a reported target for Chelsea, in the summer.
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport have reported that Inter Milan have an agreement in place to sign Sampdoria striker Luis Muriel in the summer. The Colombian had been rumoured to be a target for Chelsea, with Antonio Conte keen to sign the striker.
Luis Muriel is a 25-year-old Colombian striker whose career in Italy has finally taken off after a spate of injuries hampered his progress at Udinese. And the move to Sampdoria, who signed Muriel in 2015, has worked for the youngster.
Staying largely injury free ever since switching from Udine to Genoa, Muriel has managed to stay injury free and has slowly grown in stature and confidence. And he has take his level up a notch this season, with superb performances in front of goal seeing him bag 10 goals and 7 assists in 25 appearances in all competitions.
Having already surpassed his tally for the 2015/16 season, Muriel is looking on course to enjoy his best season ever, and surely enough his performances have been duly noted by clubs in Europe.
Chelsea were heavily linked with the Colombian, with Antonio Conte being a huge admirer of the player’s talents. The reports in recent months stated that the Blues were interested in Muriel and were considering a summer bid for the 25-year-old.
However, it looks like Inter Milan have stolen a march on the Premier League leaders to sign Muriel, with the report from Corriere dello Sport stating that the Nerazzurri already have an agreement in place to bring him to San Siro in the summer.
The report adds that while Inter are primarily interested in bringing in more defensive signings in the summer, they also want some reinforcements in midfield and attack. And the club’s officials are said to have met Muriel’s representatives in Rome, with Antonio Romei, the lawyer who is Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero’s right-hand man also present.
Inter are now ready to meet the €35 million release clause in Muriel’s contract as well as double his salary at Sampdoria, and the player himself is interested in making the move in the summer.
