Everton in pole position to sign Lookman ahead of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City

Merseyside giants Everton are looking to move early in order to snap up Charlton Athletic wonderkid Ademola Lookman.

Ademola Lookman has been making waves ever since he made his professional debut for Charlton Athletic in 2015. It has been a year since then and Lookman has enjoyed a meteoric rise at the Valley Stadium becoming a key figure for the Addicks this season.

Lookman’s exploits for Charlton have not gone unnoticed as Premier League biggies such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are reported to be interested in the forward. Last season, Chelsea, City, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool sent their scouts to monitor Lookman too, but failed in their attempts at signing the Englishman.

English media outlet Daily Mail are now reporting that Everton are ready to make a move for the highly rated teenager in January, before the Top 4 giants get a chance to. As per Mail: “Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City have all watched him closely but Everton are confident they have won the race.”

The 19-year-old first sparked interest from Premier League clubs in the junior levels for Charlton, where he scored 16 goals before being called up to the senior side midway through the 2015/16 season. He capped off a memorable season by winning the Football League Championship Apprentice of the Year.

Lookman has continued to grow at Charlton this season, scoring six goals in 20 appearances for the Addicks this season, and has even been selected to represent England at the Under 20 level. The diminutive forward is known for his ability to play in different positions and is equally adept at playing from the centre and the wings as well.

Everton and Ronald Koeman have been struggling with their options up front, and have no viable replacements for Romelu Lukaku. On-loan Ecuadorian Enner Valencia has failed to impress in the limited chances that were afforded to him and Senegalese Oumar Niasse is out of favour with Koeman.

Should Lukaku be unavailable for any amount of time, the Toffees could struggle to find a reliable goalscorer. With that in mind, the potential January acquisition of Lookman could give Koeman and Everton some much needed boost in striking options.
