Chelsea manager Antonio Conte hails Tammy Abraham as future of the club

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has heaped praise on prodigious youngster Tammy Abraham, hailing the on-loan striker as the “future” of the club, while at the same time applauding the good work done by the academy.

The 19-year-old English striker who is on a season long loan spell at Championship club Bristol City is enjoying a productive season at the club, having scored eleven goals in 17 appearances so far.

And manager Antonio Conte firmly believes that the youngster is destined to be Chelsea’s future , while also lauding the work done by the club’s academy in bringing up talented players like Nathaniel Chalobah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Dominic Solanke and others.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s EFL Cup fourth round tie at West Ham United, Conte said: “Abraham is another young player who is the future for Chelsea, for sure. He’s very young. I saw him only one week during the preseason in America. Then we decided to send him to play every game and get experience, then come back for us. He has great potential in the technical and physical aspects.”

Conte, meanwhile, was also quick to commend the good work done by Chelsea’s academy pointing out that the future of the club is promising. He added: “I think the academy is working very well. Also in my squad we have Chalobah, Aina, Solanke, Loftus-Cheek. You can see the future and it’s good. This season in the squad there are already four young players of the academy. I think it’s fantastic. If they deserve to play, they play.”

Tammy Abraham is one of the 38 Chelsea players on loan this campaign, and has been a big success story this season, even going on to score twice on his full debut for the England Under-21 side. Currently the Championship’s second top scorer, Abraham’s performances were recognised as he was named the EFL Young Player of the Month for September.

The award that has been won by the likes of Dele Alli, Wilfried Zaha and Charlie Austin previously is sure to provide a confidence booster to the youngster as he looks to stake claim to a berth in the senior side come next season.
