Barcelona are reportedly not interested in a move for German international Jonas Hector after being previously linked with the Cologne defender.

Jonas Hector has been one of the most consistent full-backs in Europe over the past few years and his performances have made a number of top clubs in the continent take note of him. The 26-year-old’s performances for the German national team at Euro 2016 seems to have resulted in a surge of interest in his services.

Liverpool were rumored to have agreed a £12m fee with FC Koln over the transfer of Jonas Hector, while fellow Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur were also reported to be interested in securing a move for the defender, according to reports from Bild.

Barcelona have been on the lookout for a left-back to provide cover for their La Masia product and Spanish International Jordi Alba, and had been linked with a move for FC Koln full back Jonas Hector. However, Mundo Deportivo has claimed that the Catalan club are not preparing an approach for the German and were never really interested in a move for the 26-year-old. The report goes on to state that the Barcelona hierarchy had never discussed the possibility of signing Hector.

The Spanish side has since gone ahead and officially announced the signing of young left-back Lucas Digne from Paris-Saint Germain. Digne’s arrivial is most likely to end speculation linking the Catalans to Jonas Hector.

The 26-year-old has impressed European clubs with his displays for Germany in Euro 2016 with Tottenham reportedly leading the race to sign the full back.

It is believed Tottenham were leading the race to sign the German international ahead of fellow Premier League outfit Liverpool before the rumoured interest from Barcelona, as per the Mundo Deportivo report. The news of Barcelona not being keen on the 26-year-old will be music to the ears of the Spurs hierarchy.

Tottenham already have two quality left sided defenders in  Danny Rose and Ben Davies with both featuring as regulars for their respective nations in the recently concluded European Championships. Welsh full-back Ben Davies, especially, was in exhilarating form for the Dragons with an average rating of 7.43 (via WhoScored) in his 5 Euro 2016 appearances.

Even then, the potential arrival of a star like Jonas Hector would only be good for the Londoners as Tottenham prepare to compete both for domestic as well as European honours this season. The 26-year-old’s international experience will come in handy in Spurs’ Champions League campaign, if he were to sign for the club.
