Kompany to be replaced by Denayer, Hazard is the new captain

In light of Vincent Kompany’s four month injury layoff which has ruled him out of the Euros, manager Marc Wilmots has confirmed that Chelsea’s Eden Hazard will take over as their captain for the duration of the tournament.

Wilmots added that he thinks Manchester City’s Jason Denayer, who is currently on loan at Turkish club Galatasaray, will step into their former captain’s boots.

“It’s a pity for him and for the team because he’s our leader and he will not be there,” Wilmots said of Kompany.

“I see Jason as the replacement for Kompany, to be clear, because he’s a player who has more or less the same profile.”
