David Luiz scored a spectacular, inch-perfect free kick, but Simon Mignolet saved face with a late penalty save as Chelsea and Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Tuesday.

David Luiz put Chelsea ahead in the 25th minute with a sneaky free kick while an off-guard Simon Mignolet was still giving instructions to his defence.

With Liverpool’s wall still being set up, Luiz sensed his opportunity after Mark Clattenburg blew his whistle to unleash the long-range free kick and leave Mignolet stranded.

The Reds, however, came back into the match in the 57th minute as Georginio Wijnaldum headed in from James Milner’s cross past Thibaut Courtois to set up an exciting final half an hour of the match.

Chelsea had the opportunity to seal the win with just over ten minutes to go in the match as Diego Costa won a controversial penalty after being tripped by Joel Matip.

However, as he took a strong penalty kick, Costa was denied by Simon Mignolet, who turned from zero to hero with an emphatic save to his right to deny the Spain international.
