Goals from Eden Hazard and Diego Costa helped Chelsea see off West Ham United in their first game of the season.

Apart from a penalty appeal from Oscar, the first 45 minutes of the London derby passed by without much action. But the second half saw a superb penalty from Eden Hazard, a brilliant volley from James Collins, a long range strike from Costa and Antonio Conte erupting with joy and celebrating with the Chelsea fans. It was a display that showed great promise but also one that showed that a lot of work was yet to be done if Chelsea were to find their best form, or formation. West Ham, despite having more than one player playing out of position over the course of the game, did try to get back in it in the second half but were ultimately undone by a Costa winner.
