2019/20 Premier League Matchday 8: Best Tips for ‘Big Six’ Fixtures and more

Matchday 7 ended on a rather submissive note, with Manchester United and Arsenal playing out a tame 1-1 draw. On the other hand, Liverpool continued their perfect start to the Premier League season to maintain their lead atop the league table. But, it wasn’t easy as Sheffield United made Liverpool work for it and the Reds only got lucky thanks to Dean Henderson’s blunder.

Chelsea kept their first clean sheet of the season and bagged all three points against Brighton while Leicester continued their brilliant start with a 5-0 win over Newcastle United. Manchester City ran out comfortable victors at Goodison Park to avoid extending the deficit between them and Liverpool.

Leicester will now look to be the first team to halt Liverpool’s perfect start as they visit Anfield on Saturday. Manchester City will be hoping Liverpool slip up and will look to win their respective game against Wolves to creep up and close the gap. Tottenham will be looking to register back-to-back league wins for the first time this season as they face Brighton on Saturday.

Chelsea and Arsenal have tricky fixtures in the form of Southampton and Bournemouth, respectively. The matchday ends with a classic; a match between Manchester United and Newcastle. The two teams are struggling in their own distinct ways and will be looking for all three points to jumpstart their season.

Before we move on to the fourth Matchday and the tips for the matches, let us look at how our tips for the last Matchday fared.

Brighton vs Tottenham

A match that is immensely important for Tottenham, especially after being drubbed 7-2 by Bayern Munich during the midweek. Spurs are also looking for their first instance of consecutive league wins this season. Brighto,n on the other hand, seem to be have really petered off after good showings early on and find themselves struggling to get goals and stop others from scoring.

Mauricio Pochettino will demand a response from his team and should get a proper one on Saturday. Expect a thumping Spurs win.

Probables:

1. Tottenham to win @ 1.90

2. Over 2.5 Match Goals @ 1.72

Outside Chance:

1. Tottenham Asian Handicap -1.5 @ 3.450

Liverpool vs Leicester

This is probably the most anticipated game of Matchday 8. Leicester are the in-form side right now, apart from Liverpool. The two teams arguably seem the most entertaining alongside Manchester City. The Foxes have shown that they are not reeling from the departure of Harry Maguire, with their playmaking and attacking upgrades making them a formidable unit.

Leicester’s only defeat came against Manchester United, but the Foxes have already had some impressive results, beating Tottenham, drawing with Chelsea and then scoring freely against Newcastle. Liverpool have performed admirably but look shaky at the back, which makes this encounter even more gripping. Expect goals.

Probables:

1. Over 2.5 Match Goals @ 1.57

2. Over 10.5 Corners @ 2.00

Outside Chance:

1. Leicester Draw No Bet @ 5.50

Southampton vs Chelsea

Chelsea somehow overcame Lille during the midweek but seemed to be really struggling to create goalscoring opportunities against the French side. Their performance against Brighton was more clinical and polished and it remains to be seen which Chelsea will turn up against Southampton.

Southampton have lost two on the trot now. But, their performances deserve more, with the latest one coming in a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham. The Saints look like a side that can do serious damage if afforded the opportunity, which means Chelsea will have to tighten their defence on Sunday.

Probables:

1. Both Teams to Score – YES @ 1.66

Outside Chance:

1. Full Time Result – Draw @ 3.80

Manchester City vs Wolves

Europa League has done no favours to Wolves’ domestic form this season. Yet, there is improvement and a sense of calmness at the club that everything will fall into place as the season goes along. 4 points from the last two matches already point towards better things. But, Sunday will provide a stern test for Wolves as they go up against a hungry Manchester City side.

Pep Guardiola has seen his side fall early prey to Norwich and will have reminded his team to not let it slip again, especially against the lower teams. Wolves have the quality to threaten Manchester City going forward. But, City’s attacking quality guarantees goals.

Probables:

1. Raheem Sterling to score anytime @ 1.72

Outside Chance:

1. Sergio Aguero to score first @ 3.50

Arsenal vs Bournemouth

Another team that has captured form early this season is Bournemouth. Eddie Howe seems to be working his magic yet again, with Bournemouth looking decisive going forward, despite minimal expenditure on recruitment over the summer. Only a point away from their Sunday opponents, Bournemouth can perhaps even enter the top 4 by the end of Matchday 8 if they beat Arsenal and other results go their way.

Arsenal’s leaky defence ensures goals for Bournemouth, whose games have all seen both the teams get on the scoresheet this league season so far.

Probables:

1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score anytime @ 1.57

Outside Chance:

1. Bournemouth Draw No Bet @ 5.00

Newcastle vs Manchester United

Two teams who seems to be struggling to find their own identity on and off the pitch. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is being dealt a bad hand when it comes to injuries while Steve Bruce just seems out of his depth this early on at Newcastle. The fans are starting to turn as well and the Sunday game might just be the tipping point for either manager.

Solskjaer needs the win, having played 10 away games without one so far. Their insipid display in the 0-0 draw during the midweek against AZ Alkmaar has only added to the pressure which needs releasing at St. James’ Park on Sunday. However bad it may seem, we believe Manchester United should be the better of two bad teams on the pitch on Sunday and get the win.

Probables:

1. Manchester United to win @ 1.85

2. Marcus Rashford to score anytime @ 2.40

3. Manchester United Clean Sheet – YES @ 2.25

Outside Chance:

1. Marcus Rashford to score 2 or more @ 8.50

Miscellaneous Tips

Everton have lost three in a row now and really seem to be struggling to score. But, they should do enough to get the ball into the back of the net against Burnley, who have had a decent start to their season. Norwich and Aston Villa should play out an interesting ninety minutes with goalmouth action promised.

West Ham are unbeaten in six and are likely to keep that streak going against Crystal Palace. Sheffield United will look to be the next aggressors to inflict more damage on Watford, who seem like they are destined to be in the relegation scrap this season.

Probables:

1. Burnley vs Everton – Both Teams to Score – YES @ 1.80

2. Norwich vs Aston Villa – Both Teams to Score – YES @ 1.50

3. Watford vs Sheffield United – Full Time Result – Draw or Sheffield United @ 1.72

Outside Chance:

1. Sheffield United to beat Watford @ 3.60
