Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has left the door open to a future move for Manchester City star Erling Haaland.
Bayern Munich chief Herbert Hainer seems quite keen on Manchester City ace Erling Haaland, but has declined to commit to an immediate pursuit of the Manchester City striker.
When asked whether the Norwegian could become an option for Bayern if Manchester City were relegated following their financial regulations case, Hainer pointed instead to the quality of the club’s current attacking options, refusing to rule out a long-term move for Haaland.
“We have an excellent forward line with Kane, Olise, Díaz and the others. We scored over 120 goals last season. So I think we’re very well equipped in attack,” Hainer said via Bayern & Germany.
When asked whether Haaland could be considered in the future after Harry Kane, the Bayern chief left the door open. “If we’re talking about the future in a few years, then there will be a new situation and we’ll see,” he added.
Hainer’s comments offer no indication that Bayern are preparing an immediate move for Haaland, but they leave room for the possibility of a future transfer. The 26-year-old remains one of Europe’s most prolific strikers and could become an attractive option if Manchester City’s circumstances change.
City signed Haaland from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 for €60 million. Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium, he has made 206 appearances, scoring 170 goals and providing 30 assists. He has also won the Champions League and two Premier League titles, establishing himself as one of the leading forwards in world football.
Haaland registered 38 goals and nine assists in 52 appearances last season and has continued his remarkable scoring rate with eight goals in as many outings this term.
Despite signing a contract that runs until 2034, the striker’s long-term future has become a talking point amid City’s ongoing financial regulations case. If Manchester City face sanctions, Haaland’s future could become uncertain, although there is no guarantee that he would become available.
Do Bayern Munich really need Haaland?
Bayern Munich, meanwhile, appear well covered at centre-forward for the foreseeable future. Kane, 33, has been outstanding since joining the Bundesliga champions and has reportedly agreed a contract extension that would keep him at the club until 2029.
The Englishman’s existing deal runs until 2027. That potential extension would give Bayern Munich stability in attack for the next few seasons and reduce the urgency to pursue another elite striker immediately.
Haaland could represent a long-term successor capable of leading Bayern’s attack for years if the club eventually needs to replace Kane. His age, goalscoring record and experience at the highest level make him an appealing option for the Bavarian club’s future planning.
For now, Hainer has offered a measured response rather than confirming Bayern’s interest. The German champions are satisfied with their current attacking depth, but the president’s comments suggest that future possibilities remain open as the club plans beyond Kane’s time in Munich.
