Yankuba Minteh would be open to joining Liverpool if they make another approach, while Manchester United are also in the mix.
According to Sport Witness, Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Yankuba Minteh, with the winger seemingly open to joining the Reds. Any move will depend on the two clubs agreeing on a deal, as Brighton were adamant that they would sell only at their valuation during the summer window, while his agent also named Manchester United as a possible interested party in the race.
Minteh’s agent, Baboucarr Fallaboweh, had plenty to say about his client and the 22-year-old Brighton winger. The representative touched on several topics, but more importantly, he revisited the interest shown in the player by Liverpool during the summer transfer window.
Fallaboweh said that Minteh would be open to joining Liverpool, and that any deal would depend on Liverpool renewing their interest in the near future. “I think Liverpool. He will still want to go to Liverpool. Depending on [how] Liverpool will activate that desire to still have him,” he added.
“Because right now, his situation has not been helped because he is injured. If not, then you could have more justification for him to showcase his performance and why Liverpool were after him. But at the overall situation, even if he moves, I don’t think he will move outside the Premier League. Manchester United can come banging on their doors.”
“It’s a big win for him to be associated with Liverpool. So, it gives other big European clubs around the world a closer look at him now that they know Brighton’s actual price. So, it will be easier for them to explore it.”
He also named Manchester United as a possible suitor for the 22-year-old Premier League winger. However, there is no clarity on whether the Red Devils are indeed interested, though that could become a topic for January and beyond if they decide to look for a wide attacker.
Liverpool boosted in Minteh race
Liverpool had chased Minteh during the summer, as Brighton & Hove Albion rejected at least two reported offers from the Reds for the winger. The Merseyside club were looking for a natural right winger after the departure of Mohamed Salah, but ended the window without signing one.
They did bring in two left wingers, Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola, although either can also play on the right side. The chase for Minteh also depended on the exit of Cody Gakpo, who eventually stayed at Liverpool and has been a mainstay on the right wing so far this season.
Liverpool are expected to revive their chase for Minteh in January, and, based on comments from his representatives, there is a good chance they could sign the 22-year-old Brighton winger. However, the main issue may still come down to the fee the Seagulls continue to demand, as the January window and a possible renewed pursuit could provide fresh details on the finances of any deal.
