Chelsea rebuff Leeds United bid for Mykhailo Mudryk

Chelsea have turned down Leeds United’s initial loan offer for their Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk.

Chelsea have rejected Leeds United’s opening loan proposal for Mykhailo Mudryk. According to TEAMtalk, both clubs remain in talks as the Blues continue to look for a club where the Ukraine international can get regular first-team football.

While the proposal did not meet Chelsea’s demands, negotiations have not broken down, and the Whites could return with an improved offer. Mudryk has not played a competitive match since November 2024, having subsequently served a drugs ban.

An appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport eventually helped resolve the case, leaving the winger free to return to football ahead of the 2026/27 season. Chelsea’s priority is finding Mudryk a suitable environment to rebuild his rhythm after almost two years away from competitive football.

The long absence means the West London club are hoping to engineer a move for the Ukrainian winger to join a club where he can play consistently rather than remain on the fringes of the first-team squad. Leeds United could offer exactly that opportunity.

They already have several options in the wide areas, but Mudryk would provide an explosive outlet in transition attacks. His acceleration and ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations make him a sharp tactical fit for Leeds’ counter-pressing model.

However, the West Yorkshire outfit are not the only club that are after him. Coventry City, managed by Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, remain another potential destination, while other clubs are also understood to be monitoring Mudryk’s situation.

A loan move looks like the best possible solution

Chelsea are therefore assessing multiple possibilities before deciding which move would best suit the player. The 25-year-old is currently not training with Chelsea’s main group, as they seek clarity over his future.

The situation represents an important moment in Mudryk’s career. Chelsea signed him from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, but the winger struggled to consistently justify that investment.

He managed 21 goal contributions in 73 appearances before his enforced absence. While there were encouraging signs during pre-season, the next step is now to regain competitive sharpness. The Blues believe a loan move could be the best route, as regular minutes at Stamford Bridge look unlikely given the kind of depth they have in attack.
