Feyenoord assistant manager Etienne Reijnen is keen on joining Arne Slot at Liverpool ahead of next season.
Liverpool are gearing up for an important summer where they will undergo a significant restructuring. Apart from player transfers, there will also be changes in their coaching staff. According to Mikos Gouka via SportWitness, Feyenoord assistant manager Etienne Reijnen could end up joining them.
While speaking on FC Rijnmond about changes at Feyenoord, the Dutch journalist said, “Said Bakkati is coming. That is as good as certain. He was at De Kuip earlier this week,”
“That surely wasn’t just to grab a sandwich. He is going to join the club, and—barring any surprises—René Hake will be leaving, perhaps even for Sparta.
“And Etiënne Reijnen wants to move to Liverpool, provided he receives permission to do so. In that scenario, the staff would definitely need another addition anyway.
“Because then you would essentially be missing that more experienced figure. I haven’t heard a specific name linked to that role yet, but they are actively working on it.”
Reijnen has been a part of the Dutch club since the end of 2023. He has done a great job for them over the years and has earned quite a reputation as a coach. The 39-year-old’s impressive work at Feyenoord has placed him on Liverpool’s radar.
The Reds are now making moves to add him to their ranks ahead of next season. After winning the Premier League last season and spending a fortune on transfers, the Merseyside club haven’t lived up to the expectations this time around.
Liverpool to appoint a new assistant manager
They have underperformed, and it has led to a lot of talk about Arne Slot’s position. The club, for now, continues to back him, hoping that he can turn it around. To help him out, they are looking to strengthen their squad and coaching staff.
Their current assistant manager, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, wants to step away, and the Reds are preparing for life without him. Reijnen, who has worked with Slot at Feyenoord, is their preferred choice, and they are already at work.
The 39-year-old is keen on making the move to England, and Slot is pushing hard for a reunion. However, the move will only go through if Feyenoord allow him to make the switch. As a result, it is certainly one to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.
