Chelsea may turn to 53-year-old Brendan Rodgers as long-term replacement for Liam Rosenior in their managerial search.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Al-Qadsiah boss Brendan Rodgers is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are scouring the managerial market for a new head coach after sacking Liam Rosenior this week. They view the Northern Irish tactician’s extensive experience in English football as a valuable asset for the long-term future of the West London club.
Brendan Rodgers’s Track Record in English Football
Brendan Rodgers has enjoyed a varied managerial career since entering the coaching sphere. The Northern Irishman began his first-team management during spells with Watford and Reading before rising in prominence at Swansea City, where he guided the Welsh outfit to Premier League promotion. Since then, the 53-year-old has managed Liverpool, Celtic, Leicester City, and Al-Qadsiah, with particularly successful periods at the Scottish giants and the Foxes.
At Al-Qadsiah, Rodgers has impressed with a 68.42% win rate in the Saudi Pro League, losing only one match. His tactical prowess has helped Al-Qadsiah rise to fourth in the league standings, sitting just 6 points behind second-placed Al-Hilal. These exploits have caught the attention of several well-known clubs, with Chelsea among the prospective suitors competing for his signature.
Chelsea’s Managerial Priorities
Chelsea’s interest in Brendan Rodgers is understandable given the club’s current circumstances. The Blues are actively scouring the market for a new head coach following their separation from Rosenior this week. Securing a long-term managerial solution is critical, and the club must get this appointment right to ensure stability and return to the English football summit.
Several candidates have emerged on Chelsea’s wishlist. Matthias Jaissle is among the targets, while Rodgers represents a proven Premier League commodity. The former Liverpool manager possesses extensive experience with the Reds, Swansea City, and Leicester City, knowledge that could prove invaluable for Chelsea’s reconstruction. Rodgers also has previous familiarity with the club, having managed the reserves before his rise to senior management.
The Fichajes report also mentions two other managerial targets for Chelsea, with the Premier League club expressing interest in Xabi Alonso and Xavi Hernandez. However, with Chelsea valuing Rodgers’ established Premier League pedigree and Al-Qadsiah’s current form, a summer return to Stamford Bridge appears plausible for the Northern Irish tactician.
