Manchester City set to beat PSG in Mathys Detourbet race

Troyes winger Mathys Detourbet is reportedly closing in on joining Manchester City, with Paris Saint-Germain set to lose the battle for his signature.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Troyes winger Mathys Detourbet is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Citizens are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a young wide attacker. The latest report has brought good news for City, as they are “progressing towards completion” of the deal to sign the 18-year-old prodigy.

The Frenchman is also a target for Paris Saint-Germain, with the Ligue 1 champions monitoring his progress closely. However, PSG will lose the battle for Detourbet’s signature, as the report has revealed that “City Football Group are determined to retain control of the pair within their system” for the long haul.

Who is Mathys Detourbet?

Mathys Detourbet is the latest promising attacker to rise in prominence in his homeland. Born in Troyes, the youngster has spent his formative years thus far in his hometown, starting his youth career with ES Municipaux Troyes before rising through the ranks at ES Troyes AC in the past decade and breaking into the Ligue 2 club’s first-team squad.

The 18-year-old has already made nearly 50 appearances for Troyes while chipping in with three goals and seven assists. Meanwhile, Detourbet’s progress has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Manchester City and PSG have been among the prospective suitors vying for the French attacker’s signature this year.

A man in demand

Manchester City’s interest in Mathys Detourbet makes sense. The Citizens are scouring the market for a promising and versatile wide attacker who can provide an injection of productivity from the left flank and become the ideal foil to Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki, and Antoine Semenyo. Additionally, with several attackers facing an uncertain future at the Etihad, Detourbet is a viable target for Manchester City.

As for PSG, Luis Enrique has a stacked offensive unit at Parc des Princes. However, a long-term partnership involving Detourbet, Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Ousmane Dembele will serve PSG well, although they have lost the battle for the 18-year-old Frenchman’s signature.

So, Detourbet is set to join Manchester City this summer, and the Premier League club will likely loan him back to Troyes for the 2026/27 season. So, PSG must look elsewhere for a promising young wide attacker this summer.
