Elliot Anderson prefers Manchester City amid Liverpool links

Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson reportedly prefers joining Manchester City over Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

According to an update by French journalist Sebastien Vidal, Elliot Anderson is the subject of interest of Manchester City. The Citizens are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Nottingham Forest midfielder has emerged as a target for them.

Apart from Manchester City, Liverpool will also attempt to sign the Englishman in the summer transfer window. However, Anderson is “believed to be heading toward Manchester City” in a summer move. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest will demand around £90 million to part ways with the former Newcastle United prospect.

How has Elliot Anderson fared in the last few seasons?

Elliot Anderson has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since joining Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in a deal worth £35 million in July 2024. The 23-year-old spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at Newcastle United. However, the possibility of flouting PSR forced the Tyneside club to sell him to Nottingham Forest.

Anderson has made over 50 appearances for Nottingham Forest thus far while chipping in with four goals and nine assists. Meanwhile, the English midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Liverpool and Manchester City are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Liverpool’s long-standing interest in Elliot Anderson makes sense. The Reds are scouring the market for a holding midfielder, as Wataru Endo faces an uncertain future at Anfield. So, signing a top-class holding midfielder can complete the Merseyside club’s midfield unit. Anderson is thus a viable target for Liverpool.

As for Manchester City, Rodri’s long-term future is uncertain, and the Spanish international has struggled with fitness issues in the last 18 months. So, Manchester City must plan for life after the Spaniard, with Anderson being a top target for them. The latest report has revealed that the Citizens are best-placed to sign the 23-year-old Englishman in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest will demand around £90 million to part ways with Anderson. While the price tag is excessive, the English international has the potential and skill set to live up to the billing. However, with the youngster leaning towards joining Manchester City, Liverpool will face a tall order to land him.
