Sporting CP ready to sell Ivan Fresneda for a discounted rate

Sporting CP will not demand €80 million to part ways with 21-year-old Spanish right-back Ivan Fresneda in the summer transfer window amid his links with Premier League clubs.

According to a report by Portuguese outlet A Bola, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Newcastle United are interested in Ivan Fresneda. The three Premier League giants are scouring the market for a right-back heading into the summer transfer window. So, the 21-year-old Sporting CP wide player has emerged as a target. Meanwhile, the Primeira Liga champions are prepared to sell him for a discounted rate, rather than demanding the release clause of €80 million.

How has Ivan Fresneda fared at Sporting CP?

Ivan Fresneda has made considerable progress since joining Sporting CP from Real Valladolid in August 2023. Born in Madrid, the Spaniard spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at CF Quijorna, EFMO Boadilla, Real Madrid, and CD Leganes before graduating from the youth division at Real Valladolid.

The 21-year-old has made 73 appearances for Sporting CP thus far while chipping in with four goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Fresneda’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Arsenal, Manchester City, and Newcastle United are among the prospective suitors vying for the Spanish right-back’s signature heading into the summer transfer window.

A man in demand

Arsenal will dip into the market for a right-back in the summer transfer window, as Mikel Arteta wants a recognised option for the position after utilising centre-backs as makeshift right-backs in recent seasons. Additionally, Ben White faces an uncertain future at the Emirates. So, Fresneda has emerged as a viable target for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s interest in Ivan Fresneda is understandable. The Citizens are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a right-back in the summer transfer window, as Rico Lewis has yet to win over Pep Guardiola. So, while Matheus Nunes has been excellent as a right-back, the Manchester City manager wants a recognised option for the position.

As for Newcastle United, Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth face an uncertain future at St. James’ Park. Additionally, Valentino Livramento has emerged as a target for several high-profile clubs, with Manchester City among his prospective suitors. While Newcastle United will aim to keep hold of the English international, they must scour the market for a replacement if he leaves.

The latest report has revealed that Sporting CP will not demand Fresneda’s release clause of €80 million to sell the 21-year-old Spaniard. However, while the Portuguese giants are ready to offer a discounted rate, they will still demand a “considerable sum” to part ways with the youngster. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Spanish right-back.
