Real Madrid have crushed rumours regarding any potential departure for Trent Alexander-Arnold, thus dealing a blow to Manchester City’s plans.
According to Fichajes, Real Madrid have dismissed the idea of Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving the club anytime soon. The Spanish giants are firmly behind the defender to establish himself as a key part of the team, as the decision to kill off a potential exit will come as a crushing blow to Manchester City’s plans.
Trent Alexander-Arnold would have hoped for a better start to life as a Real Madrid star, as his beginnings at the club have not been a smooth sailing experience. A disruptive summer, coupled with the Club World Cup, may have played a part in disturbing the player’s rhythm and contributed to his below-par start to life at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Alexander-Arnold has been blighted by injury issues since the season began, which has, in turn, prevented the defender from establishing himself in the team. Without consistency in the rhythm, as well as the fact that he is adapting to a new league after spending his entire career in the Premier League, the 27-year-old Real Madrid defender has not found a way to make himself big in that team.
Some rumours from a few weeks back stated Real Madrid would be prepared to sell Alexander-Arnold, but those have been dismissed out of hand. In fact, the club are ready to back the player with time and strategy to help him establish himself as a key part of the team moving forward.
There were some rumours back in January about a move, but Alexander-Arnold never considered the idea of a mid-season departure. He has a contract until 2031, which theoretically allows the 27-year-old Real Madrid defender plenty of time to establish himself, as he made his return from a serious hamstring injury at the weekend in the win over Valencia.
Manchester City dealt a blow?
Alexander-Arnold remains committed to Real Madrid, while the club are not even thinking about selling the defender anytime soon. That decision has come as a blow to Manchester City, who had seen links to the 27-year-old former Liverpool star, as Pep Guardiola is searching for a top-level right-back for his squad.
Manchester City have other targets, such as Tino Livramento, among others, as they may have to pivot towards an alternative. However, had the 27-year-old Real Madrid defender been made available in the market, Guardiola’s side would have pounced on the opportunity, as Alexander-Arnold from a right-back position is seemingly one of the best players this Manchester City side could have.
