Tottenham fail with approach for Lee Kang-in

Tottenham Hotspur recently initiated the move to sign 24-year-old South Korean international Lee Kang-in from Paris Saint-Germain in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Lee Kang-in is the subject of interest of Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are keen on bolstering their offensive unit by signing a versatile playmaker next year. So, the 24-year-old Paris Saint-Germain attacker has emerged as a target for the North London outfit.

Tottenham submitted an enquiry to discuss a move for the former RCD Mallorca playmaker. Atletico Madrid also attempted to sign Lee from PSG in the winter transfer window. However, the Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League holders have knocked back the two clubs, and he will not depart from Parc des Princes this month.

How has Lee Kang-in fared at PSG so far?

Lee Kang-in has established himself as one of the most dependable playmakers in Ligue 1 since joining Paris Saint-Germain from RCD Mallorca in July 2023. While the 24-year-old eased into the thick of things at Parc des Princes, he has become a top-notch performer for Les Parisiens.

The South Korean international has made over 100 appearances thus far for PSG while chipping in with 14 goals and 14 assists. Meanwhile, Lee’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid have been among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.

London calling?

Lee Kang-in has been on Tottenham Hotspur’s wishlist since his time at RCD Mallorca. The continued interest is understandable, as Thomas Frank wants more creativity and firepower in the final third. With Xavi Simons not making his mark since arriving from RB Leipzig, Tottenham can do with a quality alternative to the Dutch playmaker.

Several candidates, including Can Uzun, have thus emerged on Tottenham’s radar, with Lee also a viable target. However, while the North London club recently submitted an enquiry to discuss a deal for the PSG playmaker, the French giants have knocked them back.

Atletico Madrid’s efforts to sign the 24-year-old South Korean international have also been unsuccessful, with PSG unwilling to part ways with him in the winter transfer window. Lee will reassess his future after the 2025/26 season ends, and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him.
