Tottenham are looking at Ajax winger Mika Godts as an ideal alternative to Bournemouth’s highly sought-after star, Antoine Semenyo.
Thomas Frank’s tenure at Tottenham started with a lot of promise. However, things have not been that great for him of late as they struggles to get the desired results. With the pressure mounting on the former Brentford boss, he is looking at the winter window as an opportunity to reinforce his squad.
Frank wants to bolster his attack and would love to add more quality on the flanks. Their priority target is Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, but striking a deal for his services looks very difficult. As a result, Spurs have a plan B in place. According to a report from TEAMtalk, the North London club are interested in Mika Godts and considers him an ideal alternative.
Godts’s sensational rise at Ajax
Mika Godts joined Ajax at the start of 2024 from Genk, and he has only gone from strength to strength since. The 20-year-old has established himself as a key figure in the team and is enjoying a breakthrough season.
The Belgian youth international has seven goals and six assists in his 13 league starts. Those are quite impressive numbers for a 20-year-old who only has limited top-flight experience. His performances have not gone unnoticed, as clubs from across Europe are gearing up to prise him away from the Dutch club.
While Ajax are reluctant to lose out on him, given their current form, they will struggle to keep hold of him. The young winger, who has often been compared to Chelsea legend and compatriot Eden Hazard, finds himself on Tottenham’s wishlist.
The North London club seek more quality on the flanks, and their priority is to sign Semenyo. But he doesn’t seem too keen on joining them, amidst interest from Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.
Spurs could go all out for Mika Godts
While Tottenham have other targets as well, Godts certainly seems to be the most cost-effective and realistic target for the upcoming transfer window. Tottenham’s interest in him has peaked recently, and they have sent scouts to watch him in action in Ajax’s last two fixtures.
The 2-0 win over Feyenoord, where he bagged an assist and the 2-2 draw at NEC, where he scored the second goal. The scouts are quite impressed with the 20-year-old, and it won’t be much of a surprise if Spurs step up their interest. But they will have to battle other top clubs for his signature.
