Manchester City midfield mainstay Bernardo Silva opens up on his potential departure next summer.
Bernardo Silva’s future has become a massive talking point as his contract at Manchester City is running down. Multiple top clubs are aware of his situation and would pounce on an opportunity to sign him on a free transfer.
During an appearance on DAZN Portugal, the former AS Monaco star was asked about his future in Pep Guardiola’s team. He refused to give a clear answer on what the future holds.
Silva on his future at Manchester City
He said via Noticias Ao Minuto, “This is my last year of contract. We’ll see what happens,”
“But regardless, it’s always an honour. And after so many years, and being one of the oldest players, the time has come to pass on all this experience and information to help the younger players.
“To be as prepared as possible as quickly as possible to be able to fight for important things, which is what is required at this club.”
The 31-year-old has been a part of the Manchester City setup since the summer of 2017. He has done wonders for them and has played a big part in all the success they have had.
During his time at the club, he has won a total of 16 titles, including six Premier League triumphs and one Champions League title.
While Silva remains an integral part of Guardiola’s plans, his long-term future isn’t certain. With his contract running out at the end of the season, the Portuguese international will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs starting in January.
Silva to leave City next summer?
Multiple top clubs are interested in him and would love to sign someone of his quality on a free transfer. Silva is not certain how things will pan out and where he will be playing his football next season. For now, he is completely focused on doing his best and passing on the knowledge he has to the younger generation.
Meanwhile, City are yet to hold renewal talks with his camp. Guardiola’s team parted ways with quite a few of their senior players in the recent past, so it won’t be much of a surprise if they let go of Silva. But at 31, he certainly has a lot of football left in him, so there will not be any shortage of takers.
