Arsenal and Liverpool have reportedly joined Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign 19-year-old German prodigy Assan Ouedraogo from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.
According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in Assan Ouedraogo. Chelsea and Manchester United are also keen on signing the 19-year-old wonderkid from RB Leipzig. Meanwhile, Arsenal and Liverpool have dispatched scouts to watch the youngster in action for the Bundesliga club.
Who is Assan Ouedraogo?
Assan Ouedraogo has established himself as one of the best young prospects in his homeland in the last few years. A native of Mülheim an der Ruhr, the teenage sensation has spent his formative years thus far in Germany. The youngster rose in prominence during his spell with FC Schalke 04 before joining RB Leipzig last year.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed his breakthrough this season, amassing three goals and four assists in 12 appearances across all competitions thus far. Meanwhile, Ouedraogo’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting several high-profile clubs. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
A man in demand
Arsenal and Liverpool have recently dispatched scouts to monitor the German international, who has been on the Merseyside club’s radar for a long time. While the two Premier League bigwigs do not have a rich recent history of grooming young prospects into established first-team stars, a few have still broken the glass ceiling. Additionally, a promising midfielder like Ouedraogo can find a spot in the middle of the park for Arsenal and Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Assan Ouedraogo is hardly surprising. The Blues have never shied away from pursuing the most promising prodigies since BlueCo took over from Roman Abramovich. While Enzo Maresca has world-class midfielders in his squad, Chelsea can do with more quality in the middle of the park.
As for Manchester United, Casemiro faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford as he approaches the twilight of his career. Additionally, Manuel Ugarte has failed to make his mark since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain, while Bruno Fernandes is on the wrong side of 30. So, Manchester United can do with a new midfielder, with Ouedraogo emerging as a viable target.
Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that a winter move may not materialise. So, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United must wait until the summer transfer window to land the 19-year-old German international.
