Liverpool eyeing Willian Pacho as Marc Guehi alternative

Liverpool will reportedly pursue 23-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender Willian Pacho as an alternative to Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi next year.

According to a report by Record, as relayed by Sport Witness, Willian Pacho is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in one of the next two transfer windows. So, the 23-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.

Liverpool’s top target remains Marc Guehi, with the Premier League champions still keen on signing the Crystal Palace captain after failing to seal a deadline-day move in the summer transfer window. However, the English giants have kept their options open, with the PSG centre-back one of the options on their wishlist.

Willian Pacho and his career so far

Willian Pacho has established himself as one of the best players in Ligue 1 since joining Paris Saint-Germain from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth €45 million in August 2024. A native of Quininde, the 23-year-old spent his formative years in Ecuador and graduated from the youth division at Independiente del Valle.

However, the Ecuadorian international rose in prominence during his spell with Eintracht Frankfurt before seeing his stock soar at PSG. Pacho has made over 50 appearances thus far for PSG while chipping in with two assists. Meanwhile, the young defender’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several European bigwigs, including Liverpool.

Premier League adventure beckons?

Liverpool’s interest in Willian Pacho makes sense. The Reds are combing the market for a centre-back after failing to secure Marc Guehi’s services in the summer transfer window. While the Crystal Palace captain remains a target for Liverpool, the Premier League champions face stiff competition from other European bigwigs for his signature.

Recent reports have also claimed that despite agreeing to move to Anfield in the summer transfer window, Guehi feels no obligation towards Liverpool amid his desire to join Real Madrid. So, the Merseyside outfit must identify alternatives to Guehi, with the PSG defender emerging as a viable target.

However, the Reds have kept their options open, and they are also interested in Sven Botman, Ousmane Diomande, and Zeno Debast. It will be interesting to see if Pacho becomes a top target for Liverpool in the coming weeks, although signing the 23-year-old Ecuadorian international from PSG may be a tall order.
