Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly decided against pursuing a summer move for 25-year-old Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak amid his links with Liverpool.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, Alexander Isak is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Swedish international is ready to call it quits at Newcastle United as he seeks greener pastures in his career. Meanwhile, the Premier League champions have a clearer run at Isak, as Chelsea and Manchester United have ruled out pursuing his signature in the summer transfer window.
Alexander Isak and his progress
Alexander Isak has been one of the best strikers in the world since joining Newcastle United from Real Sociedad in a big-money move in August 2022. The Swede has been rated highly since his time with Borussia Dortmund. However, he has realised his potential at Newcastle United. The player has amassed 62 goals and 11 assists in 109 outings thus far for the Tyneside outfit.
Meanwhile, Isak’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, have been keen on signing the Newcastle United striker. A departure from St. James’ Park may be on the cards, with the 25-year-old ready to push for an exit. Liverpool will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
What next?
While Liverpool will push hard for Isak’s signature, they will have a clearer run at his signature, with Chelsea and Manchester United deciding against pursuing the Swedish international in the summer transfer window. Widespread reports have already suggested that Isak prefers joining Liverpool instead of other prospective suitors.
So, Chelsea and Manchester United’s decision to rule out a move for Isak does not change the situation. However, the Newcastle United striker would have been a transformational signing for the two Premier League bigwigs, as he has arguably been the best striker in the Premier League in the last 12 months.
As for Liverpool, the Reds are ready to part ways with Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window. In addition, Diogo Jota’s tragic passing has accentuated the need for a world-class striker. So, Isak has emerged as a viable target, with Liverpool ready to launch the offensive to sign him. However, Newcastle United’s asking price to sell the Swede may lead to prolonged negotiations.
The Tyneside outfit will demand £150 million to part ways with the 25-year-old Swedish striker. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool will cough up the required sum to land Isak, although they may face stiff competition from Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal.
