Xavi Simons wants Chelsea move, Blues seek final talks for move

Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing 22-year-old Dutch playmaker Xavi Simons from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by French journalist Sebastien Vidal, Xavi Simons is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a versatile playmaker in the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old RB Leipzig attacker has emerged as a target for the West London outfit.

The Dutchman is also a target for Arsenal, with the Gunners keen on reinforcing their attack by signing the former Barcelona wonderkid. However, Simons prefers moving to Chelsea instead of Arsenal, with RB Leipzig demanding £95 million to part ways with him in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Florian Plettenberg has suggested that the Blues want to secure a verbal agreement with the Bundesliga club today.

Xavi Simons and his Bundesliga journey so far

Xavi Simons has established himself as one of the best playmakers in the Bundesliga since joining RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain. Die Roten Bullen initially signed the 22-year-old on loan in July 2023 before completing a permanent move earlier this year.

The Dutch playmaker has come leaps and bounds at RB Leipzig, turning out 76 times thus far for the Bundesliga outfit while chipping in with 21 goals and 23 assists. Meanwhile, the Netherlands international has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs with his exploits for Leipzig. Arsenal and Chelsea are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

London calling?

Arsenal’s interest in Xavi Simons is understandable. The Gunners are scouring the market for a versatile playmaker this summer as Mikel Arteta aims to reduce the creative burden on Martin Odegaard. So, Simons has emerged as a viable target for Arsenal. However, the North London club will likely lose the battle for his signature.

As for Chelsea, the Blues have recently intensified their efforts to sign the 22-year-old Dutchman in the summer transfer window. However, the West London club’s interest is baffling, considering Cole Palmer reprises the no. 10 role. Unless Palmer shifts to the right-wing berth, it is unclear how Simons fits into the scheme of things at Chelsea.

The Netherlands international has picked his next destination, and he wants to join Chelsea in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig will demand around £95 million to part ways with him. With Chelsea keen on securing a verbal agreement imminently, it will be interesting to see if they can wrap up the deal in the coming days.
