Intermediaries have reportedly offered Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle United the chance to sign Barcelona captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen this summer.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Marc-Andre ter Stegen may be set for an adventure in the Premier League in the summer transfer window. Intermediaries have offered the Barcelona captain to Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle United, among others, with the German international facing an uncertain future at the Catalan club.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen and his Barcelona career
Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been a polarising figure for much of his spell with Barcelona. While the veteran goalkeeper has shown flashes of brilliance during his stint with the Blaugrana, he has also been error-prone, with the inconsistencies accentuating in the last few seasons. That has made him a pantomime villain for Barcelona fans.
The 33-year-old has turned out over 400 times thus far for Barcelona while keeping 175 clean sheets and conceding 416 goals. However, while the German international recently became the captain of the Catalan outfit, he faces an uncertain future at the club ahead of Joan Garcia’s arrival. So, it is hardly surprising that intermediaries have offered him to several clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle United.
Premier League adventure beckons?
Chelsea will dip into the market for a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. The West London club recently attempted to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan before the FIFA Club World Cup transfer deadline, but the move did not see the light of day. So, the Barcelona captain may be an alternative for Chelsea.
Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that Marc-Andre ter Stegen is a target for Manchester United. The Red Devils are mulling over signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window amid Andre Onana’s error-prone displays. So, the Barcelona captain may be a market opportunity for Manchester United, although they should look for younger options.
As for Newcastle United, the Magpies have been scouring the market for a goalkeeper amid Nick Pope’s worsening fitness issues. So, the Tyneside outfit will aim to sign a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. Newcastle United wanted to sign Joan Garcia but will see the Spanish shot-stopper moving to Barcelona.
However, signing the 33-year-old German international is not the solution for Newcastle United, and he does not suit Chelsea and Manchester United either. So, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the Barcelona captain.
