Real Madrid ponder outlay to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold

La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly mulling over an early deal worth £850,000 for 26-year-old Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

According to a report by Sami Mokbel and Guillem Balague on BBC Sport, Trent Alexander-Arnold is on the cusp of joining Real Madrid. However, the reigning La Liga champions want to land the outbound Liverpool full-back before the Club World Cup, and they are mulling over coughing up a compensation of £850,000 to release the English international early from his contract.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and his Liverpool journey

Trent Alexander-Arnold has come leaps and bounds since breaking into the first-team squad at Liverpool FC several years ago. The Englishman has been a mainstay at the back for nearly a decade, establishing himself as one of the best full-backs in the world.

The 26-year-old has turned out over 350 times thus far for Liverpool while chipping in with 23 goals and 92 assists. However, Alexander-Arnold’s spell with Liverpool will end after the 2024/25 season culminates, with his contract running out in a few weeks. The academy graduate has already confirmed his decision, with Liverpool also releasing an official statement.

As the Reds prepare for life after Alexander-Arnold, the English international is on the cusp of embarking on a new adventure in his career. Real Madrid will be the next destination for the Liverpool full-back, with recent reports suggesting the two parties have sealed an agreement to complete a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

Spanish adventure beckons

Real Madrid’s decision to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold is understandable. The reigning La Liga champions have been scouring the market for a right-back heading into the summer transfer window after Dani Carvajal’s long-term knee injury exposed the need for a new right-back. In addition, Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez are on the wrong side of 30.

So, Alexander-Arnold is a viable target for Real Madrid, with Los Blancos contemplating an early move. The Merengues are keen on landing the 26-year-old Englishman before the FIFA Club World Cup kicks off. So, they are mulling over offering a compensation of £850,000 to Liverpool.

In addition, the reigning La Liga champions are considering paying one month’s wages to Alexander-Arnold. So, it will be interesting to see if the English international leaves Liverpool a month early to represent Real Madrid at the Club World Cup.
