Manchester City make promises to convince Florian Wirtz

Manchester City have promised Florian Wirtz a key role in the team to convince him to join them amidst interest from Real Madrid.

According to a report from TBR, Manchester City have made significant progress in their attempt to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz. They have made certain promises to convince the German international to join them amidst interest from other top clubs.

Wirtz joined Leverkusen back in 2020 and he hasn’t looked back since getting promoted to their first team that summer. He was exceptional in their title-winning campaign last season and has been in red-hot form this season as well.

In his 41 outings across competitions, the 21-year-old has scored 15 goals and bagged 13 assists. His performances have put him on the radar of Real Madrid as well as Manchester City.

His contract at Leverkusen runs until 2027 but they are willing to offer him a new and improved deal to ensure he continues at the club for another season. The German outfit are ready to include a release clause that will be active starting in the summer of 2026.

City closing in on Wirtz’s signature?

But it seems the player has made up his mind to take the next step in his career. Manchester City are willing to do everything in their power to ensure they get their hands off Wirtz as his arrival could take their attack to the next level.

With Kevin De Bruyne set to leave the Etihad Stadium, City have promised Wirtz that he will replace the Belgian international in their squad and will be a pivotal figure in their project going forward. Pep Guardiola’s team are certain that the German international could help them fill the big boost of De Bruyne.

City’s assurance seems to have impressed the 21-year-old. But the player and his father, Hans, who is also his agent have been in talks with Real Madrid as well. While Los Blancos can’t promise him a guaranteed role, they believe the potential appointment of Xabi Alonso as their next manager could be a key factor in persuading Wirtz to join them at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Meanwhile, City remain confident about getting a deal over the line as they feel they have impressed his camp. They certainly have the financial strength to rival Real Madrid and a positional guarantee might just work in their favour.
