Liverpool, Manchester City closely monitoring Ola Aina

Liverpool and Manchester City are reportedly tracking the progress of 28-year-old Nigerian international Ola Aina at high-flying Premier League club Nottingham Forest.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Ola Aina has piqued the attention of Premier League bigwigs with his exploits for Nottingham Forest. Liverpool and Manchester City are closely observing the progress of the 28-year-old full-back at the City Ground ahead of a possible move in the summer transfer window.

Ola Aina and his Nottingham Forest journey so far

Ola Aina has established himself as one of the most dependable full-backs in the Premier League since joining Nottingham Forest from Torino in a Bosman move in July 2023. The London-born wide player struggled for stability for most of his professional career after graduating from the fabled academy at Chelsea.

The 28-year-old turned out for Torino and Fulham before finding a stable footing at Nottingham Forest. Aina has been a regular for the high-flying Premier League club in the last 18 months, turning out over 50 times thus far for the Tricky Trees while chipping in with three goals and two assists.

Meanwhile, Aina’s exploits for Nottingham Forest have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the Nigerian international, with Liverpool and Manchester City among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Manchester City’s interest in Ola Aina is understandable. The Premier League champions will likely part ways with Kyle Walker in the summer transfer window after his loan deal with AC Milan expires. In addition, Rico Lewis is yet to be convincing enough to be the first-choice right-back. So, Aina is a viable target for Manchester City.

As for Liverpool, Trent Alexander-Arnold has left the Merseyside club in a spot of bother. The English international has entered the final few months of his contract with the Reds and might depart from Anfield as a free agent amid his links with Real Madrid. So, Aina is an option worth considering for Liverpool.

Nottingham Forest will hope to tie Aina to a new long-term contract, with his current deal expiring this summer. So, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the 28-year-old Nigerian international.
