Premier League champions Manchester City are ready to submit a bid worth €25 million to sign 21-year-old Spanish midfielder Mikel Jauregizar from La Liga outfit Athletic Club.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Mikel Jauregizar is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions have been scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the winter transfer window. So, they are ready to lodge an opening offer worth €25 million to sign the 21-year-old midfield prospect, although a deal will likely materialise in the summer.
Who is Mikel Jauregizar?
Mikel Jauregizar is the latest player to extend the rich heritage of Spain’s midfield factory. A native of Bermeo, the Spaniard spent his formative years in his homeland, starting his youth career in his hometown before joining Athletic Club in July 2021. Since then, the youngster has come leaps and bounds at the Basque outfit.
The 21-year-old broke into the first-team squad last season, making his senior bow midway through the 2024/25 campaign. Jauregizar has gone from strength to strength in 12 months, becoming a regular in the middle of the park for Athletic Club.
The Spanish midfield prospect has amassed nearly 1,500 minutes of game time across 24 outings in all competitions thus far this term, chipping in with one goal and one assist. Meanwhile, Jauregizar’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Manchester City.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Manchester City’s interest in Mikel Jauregizar makes sense. The Premier League champions have been scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the winter transfer window after losing Rodri to a season-ending knee injury. So, several candidates, including Douglas Luiz, have emerged on Manchester City’s radar.
However, Jauregizar is also a viable target, with the 21-year-old Spaniard having the age profile and potential to be Rodri’s long-term suitor. Manchester City will soon submit the opening bid to sign the youngster, with the Citizens preparing a proposal worth €25 million to secure his services.
However, a winter move for the Spanish midfield prospect might not see the light of day, with Athletic Club keen on keeping hold of the highly-rated player. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for Jauregizar.
