Chelsea could sanction a loan move for Renato Veiga this month with Juventus interested, as the versatile star lacks game time.
According to TBR Football, Chelsea would be open to sanctioning a loan move for Renato Veiga before the end of the January window. Juventus are among those specifically keen to recruit the 21-year-old utility man, with the player keen to get regular game time under his belt.
When Chelsea signed Renato Veiga from FC Basel, it was seen as smart business for the 21-year-old’s ability to play multiple positions. He has not truly broken into Enzo Maresca’s plans for the Premier League but remains a firm starter in the UEFA Europa Conference League this season.
Veiga feels he needs game time as a regular rather than a bit-part player, which has made his head turn amid interest from some clubs outside of England. The 21-year-old utility man is eager to book a place in the Portuguese national squad for next year’s World Cup, and he certainly needs to be a regular on any team sheet for Roberto Martinez even to consider his name.
Marseille were interested in Veiga, although a stronger interest has emerged from Juventus and Borussia Dortmund over the recent period. Chelsea are reportedly open to letting the 21-year-old utility man leave on loan this month to help boost his minutes, as they are fairly confident of coping without the Portuguese for the remainder of the season.
Borussia Dortmund have been eager to make a move, with the Bundesliga side considering Veiga as one of their top targets for the left-back role, with Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko an alternative. In any case, Juventus are the more likely suitor to push for a move this month, as they clearly need defensive reinforcements.
Juventus could sign Renato Veiga on loan
Juventus are keen to bring two centre-backs this month following their injury issues at the back and have been interested in Newcastle United’s Lloyd Kelly. They have so far failed in pursuit of Ronald Araujo and Fikayo Tomori, with the latter’s decision to stay at AC Milan seemingly sparking the Bianconeri’s pursuit of Veiga, who they feel could be used as a central defender as well as a left-back in games.
Juventus are the strongest contender to take the 21-year-old utility man from Chelsea for the remainder of the season. A final decision might come from the player, who will evaluate the conditions of his minutes there before packing his bags at Stamford Bridge.
