Chelsea will reportedly compete with Arsenal to sign 21-year-old Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.
According to a report by Sacha Tavolieri on Sky Sports Switzerland, Benjamin Sesko is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The RB Leipzig striker is also a target for Arsenal. However, the Blues have intensified their efforts to sign the 21-year-old, who has a gentleman’s agreement to depart from the Red Bull Arena if a suitor can cough up €80 million.
Benjamin Sesko has been one of the best young players in the Bundesliga since joining RB Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg in July 2023. The highly-rated striker took some time to find his feet at the Red Bull Arena, but he has not looked back since establishing a foothold in Marco Rose’s squad.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a solid 2024/25 campaign thus far, contributing to 16 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 13 times and providing three assists. So, it is hardly surprising that Sesko is a target for several European bigwigs across Europe.
A move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Arsenal and Chelsea vying for his signature. Meanwhile, the Slovenian international has a gentleman’s agreement to leave RB Leipzig if a suitor can cough up €80 million to secure his services.
Arsenal’s interest in Benjamin Sesko makes sense. The Gunners are scouring the market for a striker after seeing Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz struggle for productivity this season. So, the RB Leipzig centre-forward has emerged as a viable target for Arsenal, with recent reports claiming he has declared his willingness to move to the Emirates.
As for Chelsea, Nicolas Jackson has blown hot and cold after a superb start to the 2024/25 season. While Marc Guiu has been impressive in his outings in the UEFA Europa Conference League and cup competitions, Enzo Maresca wants another striker. So, Chelsea recently contacted RB Leipzig to discuss a move for Sesko.
In addition, the Blues are in contact with the Slovenian striker’s representatives. Arsenal and Chelsea should have the funds to afford a deal worth €80 million for the 21-year-old RB Leipzig striker. So, it will be interesting to see where the youngster lands in the coming weeks and months.
