Manchester United are reportedly still keen on signing 22-year-old Japanese international Zion Suzuki, with Chelsea also monitoring his progress at Serie A club Parma.
According to a report by talkSPORT, Zion Suzuki is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils were keen on signing the Parma goalkeeper before he arrived in Europe 18 months ago. They are still keen on signing the Japanese international, with Chelsea also tracking his progress at the Serie A club.
The rise and rise of Zion Suzuki
Zion Suzuki has established himself as one of the best young goalkeepers in Serie A since joining Parma from Sint-Truiden in the summer transfer window. While the Crusaders have struggled at the back this season, the highly-rated goalkeeper has produced many impressive performances.
The 22-year-old has managed only three clean sheets in 19 Serie A appearances this season while conceding 30 goals. Meanwhile, Suzuki’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Chelsea and Manchester United.
Manchester United wanted to sign the Japanese international before he arrived in Europe. However, the young goalkeeper snubbed the Red Devils’ advances to join Sint-Truiden from Urawa Reds in August 2023. The continued interest is understandable, considering Altay Bayindir faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford.
Premier League move on the horizon?
While the Turkish international was exceptional in the FA Cup third-round win over Arsenal, his long-term future at Manchester United remains uncertain. So, the Parma goalkeeper has emerged as a viable target for the Red Devils. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Zion Suzuki is perplexing.
The West London club signed two goalkeepers in the summer transfer window. So, the Blues should not pursue Suzuki unless they cash in on multiple shot-stoppers after the 2024/25 season ends. Nevertheless, the Japanese international is a target for Chelsea, with the Premier League outfit closely monitoring his progress at Parma FC.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old goalkeeping prospect will not come cheap, with the Serie A club demanding around £40 million to part ways with him. So, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the young shot-stopper amid his emerging links with Chelsea and Manchester United.
