Manchester City have opening bid rejected for Vitor Reis

Premier League champions Manchester City have reportedly failed with the first offer for Vitor Reis, although the talks with Palmeiras are continuing.

According to an update by Ben Jacobs, Vitor Reis is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit this month and have set their sights on the Palmeiras centre-back. However, they have failed with their opening bid to sign the Brazilian wonderkid, although the talks between the two talks have continued.

The rapid rise of Vitor Reis

Vitor Reis has seen his stock soar since breaking into the first-team squad at Palmeiras. The Brasileirao Serie A giants have become a breeding ground for highly-rated prospects, with Endrick, Estevao Willian, and many more rising in prominence in the last few years. The teenage defensive sensation is no less, with fans and pundits in his country rating him highly.

The 18-year-old has turned out 22 times thus far for Palmeiras while chipping in with two goals. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe.

Widespread reports have linked the Brazilian wonderkid with Premier League bigwigs like Arsenal and Chelsea. However, another Premier League club might steal a march on the other prospective suitors, with Manchester City pushing hard to secure his services in the winter transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Manchester City’s interest in Vitor Reis is understandable. The Premier League clubs want to facilitate a smooth transition period as they look to move on from Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and Kyle Walker, among others. Pep Guardiola also wants to transform the central defensive unit this year.

So, the Palmeiras defender has emerged as a viable target, with Abdukodir Khusanov also on Manchester City’s wishlist. However, while the Premier League champions are closing in on landing the latter, they have failed with their open bid to sign the Brazilian defensive sensation. Personal terms are not an issue, but convincing Palmeiras to sell him will be a tall order.

The Brasileirao Serie A giants are eager to keep hold of the 18-year-old wonderkid until the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. So, Palmeiras will likely resist selling Reis to Manchester City in the winter transfer window, even though talks between the two clubs have continued.
