Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly closing in on signing Vitor Reis, leaving Arsenal and Real Madrid in the dust.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Vitor Reis is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions have already secured an agreement on personal terms with the Brazilian defensive sensation. They are working to seal a deal worth €40 million.
Meanwhile, a report by The Athletic has discussed the youngster’s recent links with Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Real Madrid. Mario Cortegana and Sam Lee have also revealed that the Premier League champions are working on a deal to sign the teenage wonderkid while suggesting that Palmeiras’s asking price is around €30.1 million, contradicting Romano’s valuation.
Vitor Reis has established himself as one of the most highly sought-after defensive prospects in the world since breaking into the first-team squad at Palmeiras. The 18-year-old whizkid already has 22 appearances for Verdao after making his first-team bow last year. So, it is hardly surprising that the youngster has piqued the attention of high-profile clubs like Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Manchester City.
The Brazilian defensive sensation has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time. While Mikel Arteta has several solid defenders in his squad, he wants more defensive options in the first-team squad. So, Arsenal hoped to sign the Palmeiras wonderkid.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s interest in Vitor Reis is understandable. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a centre-back, with Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba on the wrong side of 30. In addition, Real Madrid’s decision-makers have concerns surrounding Eder Militao, who has picked up two long-term knee injuries in as many years.
However, Arsenal and Real Madrid are losing the race to secure the young South American prospect’s services, as he has secured an agreement on personal terms with Manchester City. The Premier League champions began talks to sign the teenage wonderkid on Wednesday night before submitting an initial bid worth €40 million.
With The Athletic suggesting a lower asking price, a bid worth €40 million should do the trick. It will be interesting to see if Manchester City can beat the competition to sign the 18-year-old Brazilian defensive sensation this year.
