Erling Haaland is reportedly an obsession for Barcelona president Joan Laporta, with Manchester City desperate to tie the 24-year-old striker to a contract extension.
According to a report by SPORT, as relayed by Sport Witness, Erling Haaland is the subject of interest from Barcelona. Joan Laporta is driving the Catalan outfit’s bid to sign the Manchester City talisman, with the club president “obsessed” with the player. Meanwhile, the Premier League champions are eager to tie the 24-year-old striker to a two-year contract extension.
Erling Haaland and his ever-burgeoning stock
Erling Haaland has been one of the best players in the world since his spell with Borussia Dortmund. However, the young striker has strengthened that position since joining Manchester City from the Bundesliga club in July 2022.
The 24-year-old has often scored goals for fun during his spell with Manchester City, finding the back of the net 105 times thus far in 114 appearances while chipping in with 14 assists. Haaland has also translated that form to international football, managing 34 strikes in 37 outings for Norway.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian striker’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Widespread reports have suggested that Real Madrid might launch a big-money move for Haaland. In addition, the Manchester City talisman is a target for Barcelona.
La Liga adventure beckons?
Barcelona’s interest in Erling Haaland is understandable. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a striker who can take over from Robert Lewandowski in a few years. While the Polish attacker has been exceptional thus far this season, he is in the twilight of his career. So, Barcelona should invest in a world-class striker who can be the long-term solution in the final third for them.
So, Haaland has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, although a move will unlikely see the light of day in the 2025 summer transfer window. Nevertheless, the Manchester City talisman is an obsession for Joan Laporta, with the Barcelona president keen on taking him to the Catalan club.
Meanwhile, Manchester City will look to tie the 24-year-old Norwegian international to a two-year contract extension, with Ferran Soriano recently travelling to Norway to discuss a deal with his entourage. It will be interesting to see how the former Borussia Dortmund striker’s story evolves in the coming years.
