Chelsea sounded out by Manchester United Christopher Nkunku move

Manchester United have reportedly enquired about Christopher Nkunku, with the French attacker unhappy at Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window.

According to a report by French outlet L’Equipe, Christopher Nkunku is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a versatile attacker ahead of the winter transfer window, and they have enquired about the Chelsea forward. The Frenchman is unhappy at the West London club amid his lack of game time in the Premier League.

Christopher Nkunku and his unfulfilling spell at Chelsea

Christopher Nkunku has endured a frustrating spell since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £52 million in July 2023. The French attacker arrived at the West London club with hype and fanfare surrounding him after a productive spell with RB Leipzig. However, he has yet to land on his feet at Stamford Bridge.

The 26-year-old endured an injury-riddled debut season at Chelsea and has played second-fiddle to Nicolas Jackson in the 2024/25 campaign. Game time has come at a premium in the Premier League, with Nkunku managing only 154 minutes of action in ten appearances thus far this term.

However, the Frenchman has made his mark in his limited opportunities, amassing ten goals and one assist in 17 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net every 69 minutes. However, Nkunku is unhappy with his current role at Chelsea, and his situation piqued the attention of Manchester United.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Manchester United’s interest in Christopher Nkunku is understandable. While the French international plays in similar areas as Bruno Fernandes and Ramsus Hojlund, he can find a role for himself under Ruben Amorim. The Chelsea attacker can compete with Hojlund, Amad Diallo, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and the Manchester United captain for three positions.

So, Nkunku is a viable target, with Manchester United wasting no time and already sounding out Chelsea regarding a move for the former RB Leipzig attacker in the January transfer window. It is unclear if the West London club will allow the disgruntled forward to join the Red Devils.

However, with Nkunku increasingly frustrated at Stamford Bridge, he might force Chelsea’s hand. It will be interesting to see if the 26-year-old Frenchman lands at Manchester United this winter, with recent reports suggesting he might push for an exit.
