Bayern Munich in pole position to sign Florian Wirtz

Bayern Munich are reportedly the front-runners in the race for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz amidst interest from Manchester City and Real Madrid.

According to a report from Football Insider, Florian Wirtz could be on the move in the summer of 2025. While multiple clubs are keen on signing him, Bayern Munich are believed to be the favourite to sign the German attacking sensation.

Wirtz joined Bayer Leverkusen at the start of 2020. It took him just six months to go from the Under-19s to the first team, and he has only gone from strength to strength since. He made quite a name for himself thanks to his heroics last season.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder was involved in a total of 49 matches across competitions and he ended up contributing towards 38 goals (18 goals, 20 assists). Wirtz played a pivotal role in their remarkable success, guiding the team to the Bundesliga title unbeaten, helping them lift the DFB Pokal and reach the final of the Europa League.

While he is one of the first names on the team sheet under Xabi Alonso and his contract there runs until the summer of 2027, Wirtz is expected to be on the move to a bigger club in the summer of 2025.

Three European giants keen on signing Wirtz

Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich have all been linked with the German international, who has been on fire over the last 18 months and has established himself as one of the best young talents in the world.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are looking at him as an ideal long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne who is in the last leg of his career and whose future at Eithad is not certain. Not only can Wirtz be the number ten for them going forward, but he can also feature anywhere across the front line.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos are always on the lookout for players who can further bolster their squad and help them in the long run. Wirtz has the potential to be one of the best in the world, and it is quite understandable why Real Madrid would want to sign him.

While Manchester City and Real Madrid are both interested in the 21-year-old’s signature, Bayern Munich lead the race for his services. The Bavarian giants are always looking to acquire the services of the best players in the Bundesliga and this time around, they do have a boost as Wirtz is keen on staying in his homeland.
