West Ham United interested in Ben Chilwell

West Ham United might look to sign 27-year-old English international Ben Chilwell from Chelsea in the January transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Ben Chilwell is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Chelsea misfit is keen on leaving the West London club in the winter transfer window as he looks to resurrect his stuttering career.

Ben Chilwell and his Chelsea misery

Ben Chilwell has seen his career come to a grinding halt since Enzo Maresca took over as the new manager this past summer. The Englishman was the undisputed first-choice left-back for Chelsea in his first few seasons with the West London club and served them as the vice-captain last term.

However, the 27-year-old has become a peripheral figure for Chelsea this season, with Maresca placing him in the “bomb squad” during the summer transfer window. Several clubs showed interest in Chilwell, and even Turkish outfits mulled over signing him after the transfer window shut down in most other countries.

In the end, a move did not see the light of day, with the English international remaining at Chelsea. The former Leicester City full-back has barely featured for the West London club this season, managing only 45 minutes of game time in the EFL Cup. However, Chilwell’s stock in the market remains high, with West Ham United joining the race to sign him.

Move across London on the cards?

West Ham United’s interest in Ben Chilwell is understandable. The Hammers are keen on signing a left-back after failing to reinforce the position in the summer transfer window. With Emerson Palmieri blowing hot and cold and Aaron Cresswell in the twilight of his career, West Ham can do with a top-notch left-back.

So, Chilwell has emerged as a viable target for West Ham United, with the East London club exploring a winter move. In addition, with Chelsea ready to cash in on the Englishman and the player eager to end his misery at Stamford Bridge, a deal might see the light of day in the January transfer window.

Chelsea will unlikely recoup anything close to the £50 million they paid to sign Chilwell from Leicester City in August 2020. It will be interesting to see if a move to West Ham sees the light of day.
