Chelsea, Manchester United in transfer tussle to sign David Moller Wolfe

Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing 22-year-old Norwegian full-back David Moller Wolfe from Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, David Moller Wolfe has piqued the attention of Premier League bigwigs with his exploits for AZ Alkmaar. Chelsea and Manchester United are among the clubs keeping tabs on the progress of the 22-year-old full-back at the Eredivisie club, with both high-profile outfits keen on signing a left-back next year.

Who is David Moller Wolfe?

David Moller Wolfe is the latest highly-rated player from his country to rise in prominence and promise a bright future for his national side. While Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard, and Alexander Sorloth have grabbed the spotlight, others like Wolfe, Antonio Nusa and Julian Ryerson can also become difference-makers.

As for Wolfe, the youngster is a native of Bergen and spent his formative years in his homeland. However, the 22-year-old has risen in prominence since joining AZ Alkmaar from SK Brann in July 2023. The youngster has turned out over 50 times thus far for the Eredivisie outfit while chipping in with one goal and four assists.

Meanwhile, the Norwegian prospect’s progress at AZ Alkmaar has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Chelsea and Manchester United vying for his signature.

Premier League beckoning?

Chelsea’s interest in David Moller Wolfe is understandable. The Blues are scouring the market for a left-back as they wait to part ways with Ben Chilwell. Interestingly, the English international is the top target for Manchester United ahead of the January transfer window. So, Wolfe has emerged as a viable target for Chelsea.

As for Manchester United, the Red Devils have been in a frustrating situation since the start of the 2022/23 season, with Luke Shaw barely featuring and Tyrell Malacia yet to take the field due to a long-term knee injury. So, several candidates, including Federico Dimarco, have emerged on Manchester United’s radar.

However, Wolfe is also an option worth considering for Manchester United, although they will face stiff competition from Chelsea. It will be interesting to see if either Premier League bigwig can bring the 22-year-old Norwegian international to England next year.
