Chelsea scouts keeping tabs on Piero Hincapie

Chelsea could consider a move for Piero Hicapie in the future, as Enzo Maresca plans plenty of changes to the left side of his defence.

According to TBR, Chelse has Piero Hincapie on their radar, as the Bayer Leverkusen star will be on the move next summer. The Ecuadorian was in demand during the summer, and now Blues boss Enzo Maresca could consider him as an option to improve the left side of his defence.

Chelsea are on a good run of form, following some favourable results that have shined the light on new boss Enzo Maresca. The Italian has had a good start to life despite some early doubts following Chelsea’s otherwise dreadful form over the last two years.

While they have spent massively on the attacking side, Chelsea did not focus too well on improving their defensive side. The free transfer of Tosin Adarabioyo was the only real defensive signing they made, while Wesley Fofana’s fitness boosted them otherwise.

While Maresca seems to have got the grips of his side, he will likely look to make rather particular changes to his squad. For starters, he does feel the left side of their defensive side is lacking quality, as there will be some changes coming in soon. The Blues are willing to sell Benoit Badiashile, while there are some doubts about Marc Cucurella’s long-term future.

Ben Chilwell is also on his way out of the club, and he will seek an exit as Maresca does not fancy the left-back. As a quality option, Chelsea is looking at a number of players, including Bayer Leverkusen’s 22-year-old South American defender Piero Hincapie.

Piero Hicapie on Chelsea’s radar

Hincapie had significant interest from Premier League sides, but like many other Bayer Leverkusen stars, his future might have been tied to that of manager Xabi Alonso. The Ecuadorian international could be on his way to a big career move next summer, and Chelsea might as well be an option to consider.

Hincapie excelled in both central and left-back roles while at Leverkusen. Chelsea has a thriving squad under Maresca, and addition like the 22-year-old South American defender could be crucial, as the club is not afraid to spend on the right players.
