Manchester City are scouting Atalanta’s Ederson as they seek cover for Rodri, who is expected to miss the entire 2024/25 season.
According to a report from CaughtOffside, Manchester City are interested in the services of Ederson as they look for someone who can cover for the injured Rodri. They have been scouting the Atalanta ace of late and consider him to be their top target.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City received a massive blow when Rodri picked up an injury in the game against Arsenal. He was starting his first Premier League game of the season and was forced off in the first half. The Spanish international has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear and is expected to be out for the rest of the season.
The English giants are not in a situation of panic, and they do not want to rush into a new signing to cover for him as they have other quality options in their team. However, they are surely considering bringing in a top midfielder. Manchester City have stepped up their efforts in their pursuit of Ederson.
Manchester City step up interest in Ederson
Guardiola’s team have sent scouts to watch the Brazilian midfielder in action for Atalanta in recent weeks. The 25-year-old midfielder has only gone from strength to strength since making the move to the Italian outfit. He played a big part in their Europa League success last season and has all the qualities to succeed at City.
Rodri is one of the best in the world in his position. As a result, bringing in a top replacement will surely help cover for him. They feel Ederson could flourish under Guardiola, but signing him in the upcoming transfer window won’t be that straightforward.
His contract with Atalanta runs until the summer of 2027, and the Italian outfit are in no rush to negotiate his departure. Having sold Teun Koopmeiners to Juventus in the summer, they might not want to lose out on another top star and that too in the middle of a new campaign.
While Manchester City have other targets, including Samuele Ricci, in case the Ederson move does not work out, the Brazilian international is their top target to come in as a cover for Rodri.
